The watts used to power headlights generated by the alternator in your car is negligable at best. Multiply that over one million cars and you’re talking about a 5 megawatt reduction in energy consumption.

The light output is the same. Now, 9% of a small amount of power is…a small amount of power. Looking at the percentage of watt usage. However Sylvania took it to the next level by offering an “EcoBright” bulb for headlights.

What’s difficult to understand about 9-21% less energy consumption? Standard H7 spec headlight bulbs are 55W. the Ecobright H7 bulbs are 50W. that’s a 9% reduction in energy consumption. The light output is the same. Now, 9% of a small amount of power is…a small amount of power. 5W in this case! It is what it is. Multiply that over one million cars and you’re talking about a 5 megawatt reduction in energy consumption. What did you expect? 5W bulb replacements for 55W?
